Message from the Ambassador

H.E Mwenda Karisa, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary

I am delighted to welcome you all to the website of the Embassy of the Republic of Kenya in Havana, Cuba. This Embassy is concurrently accredited to Bahamas, Barbados, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Panama, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, Venezuela and CARICOM Secretariat.

Allow me to briefly say something about our country Kenya. Kenya is located in East Africa bordering the Indian Ocean to the east. The Equator traverses the country thus endowing us with diverse climatic conditions regions. These include equatorial forests, savannah grasslands teaming with wild life, the Great Rift Valley and mountain highlands. Kenya is home to the world famous Maasai Mara Reserve, known for the annual wildebeest migrations. Kenya is also endowed with a rich cultural heritage with diverse cultures and languages.

The establishment of the Embassy was inspired by the historical relations between Kenya and the Republic of Cuba and other Caribbean countries. These relations have been shaped by the shared heritage and historical links of the peoples of Africa and the Caribbean.  It is worth noting that Cuba was the first Caribbean country to establish a diplomatic mission in Kenya. The location of the Mission in the Caribbean was also informed by the critical role that the Republic of Cuba plays in the multilateral and global arena thus making Havana a hub for diplomatic engagement. In addition, the central location of Havana in the Caribbean makes it a convenient launch pad for engagements with other countries in the region.

Our Mission as the Embassy of Kenya is to promote bilateral relations between Kenya and Cuba and other countries of accreditation and to protect the interests Kenya and Kenyans in the host countries. Towards this end we commit to enhance the relations between Kenya and our countries of accreditation. To the Kenyan diaspora we are here to engage with you to address your concerns and to promote your contribution to the national development of Kenya.

This website will provide a platform for engagement between our embassy and our diaspora as well as residents in the countries of our accreditation. We will use the website to share information about Kenya, the Embassy, the services we provide and topical issues and developments of interest.

We look forward to receive feedback from our clients through the social media accounts, email and telephone lines of the Embassy.

Mwenda Karisa
AMBASSADOR
